Orthodontic Re-treatment

Your teeth are always on the move—even if you have had orthodontic treatment in the past.  That’s why the long-term use of a retainer is so important. Without it, the teeth can gradually shift out of position, erasing the perfect smile that you once enjoyed. Patients who may have forgotten to wear their retainers, have lost their retainers, or who wear their retainers inconsistently may suffer an orthodontic relapse. When this occurs, the teeth may have shifted into positions which can no longer be managed by a retainer alone.

Bringing Back Your Smile

It happens. Your teeth may have shifted, your retainer no longer fits, but we can bring back the smile that you remember and help you to prevent the same problem from occurring in the future.

We offer a 3 month retreatment option called Red, White and Blue. It features 3 trays worn for 3-4 weeks each, followed by a permanent fixed retainer that prevents any future relapse potential. Contact our office to see if it’s the right solution for you!

Starting with a new orthodontic evaluation, we can assess the full extent of your relapse. Through the use of x-rays, pictures, and a clinical exam, we can diagnose your current condition and develop a plan for restoring your smile. If you still have your old retainer, we’ll ask that you bring it with you (even if it no longer fits).

Based upon the severity of the relapse, we may recommend a limited or comprehensive strategy for your retreatment. A mild to moderate relapse can often be corrected with the short-term use of braces on the front teeth or the limited use of invisible braces. A moderate to severe relapse might involve a more comprehensive retreatment approach to include full braces, elastics, rubber bands, or a full set of invisible braces.

Don’t need a full braces but would like straighter teeth? We also offer Simpli5; the best solution for cases involving minor to intermediate anterior crowding or spacing and for orthodontic relapse cases.

Sealing the Deal

To prevent a future relapse, we’ll fit you with a new retainer once your retreatment has been completed. Wearing your retainer as instructed will ensure that your teeth are stabilized and secure. To eliminate the risk of a lost retainer or inconsistent use, Dr. Ellen may recommend a permanent retainer rather than a removable appliance.
